On December 12, 2011, Dr. Deborah Carstens, Associate Professor of the Nathan M. Bisk College of Business and Director of our ABTA Institute, was honored at the annual Project Management Institute (PMI) Space Coast Chapter awards ceremony. Dr. Carstens received the award for Volunteer of the Year for her efforts in organizing the PMI chapter’s first annual Professional Development Day (PDD), which was successfully held here at the Florida Tech campus. While dressed as Santa Clause, President of the PMI Space Coast Chapter, Jim Devine, presented the award to Dr. Carstens by congratulating her on her significant contributions to the field of Project Management. In addition to her community service efforts, Dr. Carstens also serves as the Florida Tech Academic Chair for the MBA Project Management program online.

After the awards were announced, the meeting continued with a very interesting presentation on calculating return on investment (ROI) and other methodologies useful in the field of Project Management by one of our own Adjunct Faculty Professor, Wayne Brantley. Professor Brantley is the Senior Director of Professional Education at University Alliance and teaches course for our Florida Tech online MBA with a Project Management specialization. Jim Devine is also an Adjunct Faculty Professor for the same program.

I truly enjoyed attending this event along with Dr. S. Ann Becker, Dean of the Florida Tech Nathan M. Bisk College of Business, and Chris Durie, Manager for Online Business Programs. It was a wonderful opportunity to honor and congratulate Dr. Carstens as well as visit with our Online Faculty members, Professor Brantley and Professor Devine, whom we seldom have the opportunity to see face-to-face.
