Nathan M. Bisk College of Business Students Raise Awareness for Local Shelters

Florida Tech’s Nathan M. Bisk College of Business students welcomed some very special guests to campus on April 9th 2011. Bandanas around their necks, tongues wagging, and tons of energy, dogs of various ages, sizes and breeds  along with representatives from the South Animal Care and Adoption Center came  to Florida Tech’s campus.

Organized by students in Dr. Andrew Cudmore’s marketing class, the PAWS in Panther Plaza event developed from a shared commonality: a love for dogs! When students leave home for college they often leave behind family pets and since  on-campus housing does not allow animals, bringing shelter dogs on campus seemed like the perfect opportunity to raise awareness all while getting to spend a sunny afternoon playing with the pups!

Dr. Cudmore’s class set out to achieve 4 goals:

1) To create awareness for local shelters

2) Obtain a volunteer for the shelter

3) Raise $300 for the shelter

4) An adoption of a puppy

Not only did they meet all of their goals, they exceeded them by having 10 people register to volunteer and by raising $1,000 for the shelter.

There was great energy in the Panther Plaza that afternoon. Faculty, staff, and students couldn’t help but come by and visit with the dogs. The Nathan M. Bisk College of Business is extremely proud of the work Dr. Cudmore’s students did to bring this event to campus and to raise awareness for local shelters.
