A Second Chance For The College Experience

Ah, college. The time of parties, clubs and befriending fellow students.

Or at least that’s what people tell me.

To be honest, I never did any of that during my college days. It wasn’t because I didn’t want to. I just didn’t think about it. When I arrived at the University of Central Florida with my associate’s degree in hand, all I thought about was acing my classes and working internships. Everything else didn’t matter. I didn’t join a club, I rarely went to a campus event and I only stuck around the friends I knew from back home.

Focusing hard on your academics and improving your resume is important. You don’t have to indulge in anything else if you don’t want to. Despite my lack of participation in much of the college experience, I loved my time at UCF. I am a proud alumni (so much so that I almost attended this year’s Fiesta Bowl).

But I always felt that tiny feeling of disconnection within my college years.

Enter my first big kid job at Florida Institute of Technology. This fresh college graduate’s primary focus is now promoting the university experience. Not only am I trying to gain the general work experience to kick off a potential career, but  all of those college things I missed out on are now top of mind.

A year after receiving my diploma, it’s time for me to go back to college. I’m going to experience the campus events, discover new buildings, get involved and find out what’s great about Florida Tech. All while belting out “Second Chances” by Celine Dion (only in my head, of course).
