Melissa Pyles Named SSC Women’s Defensive Soccer Player of the Week

ORLANDO, Fla. (women’s soccer)-For the second week straight, Florida Tech has been honored with a Sunshine State Conference Player-of-the-Week. Freshman
goalkeeper Melissa Pyles was Tech’s first conference honoree
for the 2006 campaign.

The Port Orange native recorded her third shutout of the year, playing all 110 minutes and grabbing two saves in a scoreless tie against Barry University.
Florida Tech earned a point in the conference standings for the first time in its four year history against the Buccaneers, which had not been shutout in
SSC play since 1998.

Pyles graduated from Spruce Creek High School and is a General Studies major. Thus far this season, she has played in nine contests and started eight with
the third best Goals Against Average in the SSC at 0.48 percentage. She has played 745:12 minutes, with 24 saves, 4 shut-outs, and a .857 save percentage.
Pyles has only allowed four goals in her nine games and has a 3-2-1 overall record.
