Accounting Students in Nathan M. Bisk College of Business Earn Scholarship From FICPA


Matthew Schwanda and Jennifer Reid, undergraduate students in the Nathan M. Bisk College of Business, were awarded scholarships by the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountant (FICPA) Educational Foundation. The students received $2,000 each to be used towards costs for the current academic year.

On October 25, 2011, the students received their scholarship awards at a local FICPA chapter meeting held in Cocoa Beach, Florida. Dr. Ann Becker, Dean of the College of Business, and Dr. Mardi Sale, Associate Professor of Accounting also attended the event.

Matthew, a California native, is a senior at Florida Tech. He moved to Melbourne, Fla., in 2001 and attended Brevard Christian School until he graduated with valedictorian honors in 2008. He attended Brevard Community College for two years before transferring to Florida Tech in 2010. Also a senior, Reid grew up in Port St. Lucie, Fla., and is now a Palm Bay, Fla., resident. She graduated from Fort Pierce Central High School in 2005.

Dr. S. Ann Becker is the dean of the Nathan M. Bisk College of Business at Florida Tech with oversight of the Center for Entrepreneurship and New Business Development. She has served the college as both associate dean of research and academic chair for online CIS and MBA business degree programs. Dr. Becker has twenty plus years of academic experience with over 100 publications. She has held tenured positions at Northern Arizona University and American University, Washington D.C. Dr. Becker has an MBA from St. Cloud State University and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Information Systems from the University of Maryland, College Park.
