Have a Heart? Give a Heart – CoB Students Organize Walk-A-Thon

The Nathan M. Bisk College of Business will be sponsoring a Walk-A-Thon to help raise funds for a fellow business student, Yiellen St. Amour, whose mother (Marie Andree St. Amour) is in urgent need of a heart transplant. Doctors estimate that Marie will have less than 8 months to live, unless she undergoes heart transplant surgery as she cannot stay on the Dobutamine IV medication forever. Without access to health insurance, the St. Amour family is left with no option but to raise $1,000,000 to pay for the life saving operation out of pocket.

The St. Amour’s are Haitian natives and Marie has helped women and children improve their futures in Haiti for more than 30 years. Marie works with women of Haiti and provides them with the knowledge and tools to become self-sufficient. She also removes them from the streets and guides them toward the pathway of independence and success. She has spent the majority of her life helping others and even now she yearns to continue her service to the Haitian community.

When Yiellen, who is now a senior, chose to come to the United States and attend Florida Tech, she envisioned using her education for opportunity to build a better life and support her parents. Yiellen would love her mother to see her graduate from Florida Tech this May and become the woman that Marie always aspired for Yiellen to be.

The Walk-A-Thon will be held on April 19th from 10 am – 2 pm on the Florida Tech campus. You can contribute to the Walk-A-Thon in 2 ways by walking for the cause and/or sponsoring a “walking” participate. You may choose to sponsor participants on per lap basis or by a fixed dollar. There will be refreshments for participants, and to keep a festive mood we will have a DJ and participants will receive beads for each lap completed. Come join us on April 19th. Help us save a life.
