Women’s Business Center Earns National Excellence Award

MELBOURNE, FLA.—The Florida Institute of Technology Women’s Business Center (WBC) was recently awarded the 2012 Women’s Business Center of Excellence Award from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).

To win the award, the WBC was nominated and then selected by the SBA. The nominations in this category include organizations that deliver results, are innovative, that advocate for the small business community, that develop partners through local and state collaborations and have a good standing with the Office of Women’s Business Ownership at SBA.

Additionally, “Ours is one of 110 Women’s Business Centers across the nation and only one award is given,” said Donn Miller-Kermani, director, WBC.

As an award winner, Miller-Kermani, will attend the National Business Week celebration May 20-22 in Washington, D.C. to accept the award on behalf of the WBC.

Established in 1963, the event recognizes outstanding small business owners for their personal successes and contributions.

The SBA’s mission is to help small businesses succeed by providing support through a variety of programs and resource partners located strategically around the country. These partners, such as the WBC, support local SBA offices by offering technical assistance, business training, counseling, mentoring and other services to small business owners.

The WBC is funded in part through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration. It has served more than 350 clients since 2007 and more than 4,500 individuals have attended its classes, networking events and conferences.
