Alumni Spotlight: G. Newton, Deputy Commander at NAVAIR

Graduate of our M.S. Management program at our National Capital Region site, Gary R. Newton is has risen the ranks to become the Deputy Commander and senior civilian at Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR).

NAVAIR  provides support for the naval aviation enterprise including acquisition, deployment and management of naval aircraft, weapons and related systems, and consists of more than 25,000 civilian/military personnel located around the globe.

As Deputy Commander, he is in charge of planning the optimum execution relating to five core processes for NAVAIR: acquisition management, R&D for engineering, tests and evaluations, support for in-service programs, and repairs and modifications.

Newton has been working for NAVAIR since 1991, and had held a multitude of positions which required him to develop tools and procedures that helped measure the effectiveness of weapons systems in various phases of their life cycles.

Newton’s past positions put him in charge of things like readiness analysis for naval aviation systems, logistics, operational data, business and operations management for all depot maintenance operations and was even responsible for 16,000 civilian and military personnel across nearly 30 different sites.
