Lecture: Redeeming Peter Jackson’s Hobbit Trilogy, Sept. 26, 2019
During this lecture hosted by Florida Tech’s Lifelong Scholar Society, Dr. Melissa Crofton short clips from Peter Jackson’s three Hobbit Movies will be shown as we follow our companions on their journey there and back again through Middle Earth.
Whether you love them or hate them, Peter Jackson’s three Hobbit movies (2012-2014) have become a permanent fixture in the world of pop culture. Moviegoers who were once willing enough to forgive Jackson for some of the drastic changes and cuts (alas, poor Tom Bombadil!) in his Lord of the Rings trilogy feel a lot different about his decision to transform a two hundred and fiftyish page children’s novel into a seven-and-a-half-hour trilogy. While these three movies may not have been as carefully planned as The Lord of the Rings films (2001-2003), a lot of the scenes are filmed very well, and Jackson provides some important background information that a casual viewer might otherwise miss.
