Helping MORE Students at the ASC!

0

If you’ve thought that the Academic Support Center has gotten busier, it’s not just your imagination! The numbers have been tallied and the results are in. The Academic Support Center saw an increase in traffic of over 180% from Fall 2013 to Fall 2014.

That’s right, 180%. Among first-year students, we saw an increase of 211% from Fall 2013 to Fall 2014, and most of that can be attributed to our course-specific group studies in key first-year courses like General Chemistry, Discrete Mathematics, and Basic Economics. These hourlong sessions allow us to work with more students using materials provided by course instructors to review for major exams. Having a peer tutor coordinate these sessions provides a unique and educated perspective on exam review, and students have the opportunity to schedule follow-up tutoring sessions at the end of each group study session.

ASC services aren’t just for new students, either! We saw more sophomores, juniors, and seniors this Fall than before. Group study sessions in classes like Physics 1, Organic Chemistry, Business Statistics, and Statics help students in key courses well beyond the first semester. Private tutoring sessions in classes like Electronics, Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, Child Psychology, and Quantitative Methods are available for students Monday through Friday. In addition, writing instruction is available for all undergraduates; this can be useful for reviewing essays or reports.

Want to make an appointment? Reserve a space online at http://hub.fit.edu/asc or come by the Academic Support Center Monday through Thursday, 8AM to 7PM, or Friday 8AM to 5PM. Stay up to date with our writing seminars, resource workshops, and group study sessions via Facebook or Twitter.
