Not Given Enough Credit

This university never ceases to amaze me. As a senior at Florida Tech, I am one of many students that are looked upon to perform great things both here at FIT and in life. Perhaps the best way to tie together the concept of being a senior and life would be to reveal a little about the other world we live in, the world of dreams.
As a 25 year-old senior, I can still vividly remember a time when I had very few cares in the world. As a very young child, I could essentially do whatever I wanted to do (within reason), and not worry so much about life in general. Unfortunately, those days exist only in memory and all that is left to act upon would be the profession we wanted to spend our lives doing.
As a kid, I knew that my strongest point was being creative and being a powerful communicator. It wasn’t until my young adult years (18 or so) when I realized that I had to decide what I wanted to do for the rest of my life: I decided to major in Communication at FIT.
The back story aside, I plan on attending grad school at FSU and work towards a master’s degree in English/Literature/Rhetoric/Creative Writing and later a PhD in English. The point I am trying to make is this: I’m an enormously proud and loyal member of what I have come to believe is the smallest department on campus. Those of us who make up the Humanities/Communication department are not given enough credit for what we do. We are the communicators. We bring to life the ideas and words of our peers and colleagues and we do it proudly. We exist in the stuff of thoughts and emotions; we also exist within the pages and spine of a book. In a way, we are reality-shapers in the most human sense of the word and this is something that I am so very proud of.
In the end, we are not given enough credit. Now, some may ask what we should be given credit for. Allow me to enlighten you: we should be given credit for helping those around us make their dreams into a reality. We exist to help communicate on behalf of those who do not know how and those who cannot.
