Panthers Send 100+ Survivor Love Letters to The Women’s Center of Brevard

On Jan. 27, the Office of Civic Engagement hosted a Survivor Love Letter event through a partnership with the Women’s Center of Brevard and the Evans Library. The aim of the event was not only to show support for survivors of sexual assault, but also to spark conversations about sexual assault in our community and what can be done to help those in need.

Representatives from the Women’s Center attended the event and distributed materials to students to make them aware of the resources available to them as both Florida Tech students and members of the larger Brevard County community. Their presence gave students the opportunity to ask difficult questions, consider how survivors must feel through the health and legal processes associated with sexual assault and, ultimately, help normalize these often stigmatized conversations.

At the conclusion of the event, the letters written by students, faculty, and staff were put on display in the Evans Library to provide further exposure to the topic and give additional students time to contribute letters of their own. After a week in the Evans Library, the 100-plus letters will be donated to the Women’s Center, which will distribute them to survivors in need.
