So you like business. You’re probably good with numbers, accounting and economics and see most things as an opportunity; you also probably have some skills in leadership. If the previously mentioned is true, then a degree in business administration is right for you! But what can you do with a degree in business administration? Well, I’ll tell you! With a degree in business administration, the first thing you could consider doing is earning your graduate degree in a business field, like an M.S. in Innovation and Entrepreneurship. This gives you a thorough understanding of the field and industry. Many students often choose this option after graduating with their B.S. in business administration.

The business world is full of practical applications and global perspectives and it’s often collaborative. If you’re ready to take the reins and join the world of business, then the next option is becoming an entrepreneur. This basically just means that you identify and start your own business venture! This is perfect for people who have ideas about wanting to start their own business and be their own boss.

If starting your own business isn’t for you, another possibility is to take the Uniform CPA Exam and become a Certified Public Accountant. The exam is a 14-hour, computer-based test that is made up of four sections. It requires you to know the law, policies and what to do in real-life situations. Your salary is much higher when you’re certified, and you are qualified for higher positions in many financial companies.

You could also become an accountant or auditor, either independently, with accounting firms, for the Internal Revenue Service or a state government. Auditors prepare and examine financial records, making sure that everything adds up nicely and that financial assets are being handles properly.

If you want to work more with promoting brand awareness of a company and handling advertising campaigns, you could be an advertising executive or marketing specialist. An advertising executive coordinates, manages and creates advertising campaigns and a marketing specialist is someone with knowledge on how to push a product to a targeted consumer.

But that’s not all that’s out there for business administration majors. If you want to be self-employed, a good career option is to be a management analyst. Only 20 percent are employed with consulting firms, and the rest are self-employed, according to businessmajors.about.com. Management analysts will analyze operating procedures in a particular business, and then give advice and recommendations based on their findings.

Well, there you have it in a nutshell! There are so many opportunities for a student pursuing a degree in business administration, and that is what makes it such a popular degree. So, ask not, “What can I do with my business administration degree?” but, “What will I do with my business administration degree?”
