Student Design and Research Showcase Open to Community

MELBOURNE, FLA. — Florida Tech College of Engineering and College of Science student teams will display their finished design projects and research efforts
on Friday, April 4, from noon to 4 p.m. More than 90 projects will make up the Student Project Showcase at the Charles and Ruth Clemente Center, on campus.
The community is invited to see these original projects and meet the students.

Among the College of Engineering projects on display will be the performance hybrid racing (PHyR) Car, a continuation of last year’s racing electric
vehicle (REV). This won best hybrid in progress at the Society of Automotive Engineers inaugural hybrid vehicle competition. The CubeSat, a student-built
satellite project, also to be exhibited, was one of the three design winners in the Florida Space Grant Consortium’s annual Florida University Satellite
(FUNSAT) Competition. The CubeSat is now a contender for the grand prize of launching a satellite into space. Also on exhibit will be audio fingerprint,
hydrogen production from biomass, water monitoring and virtual vision projects and a radio-controlled cargo plane.

College of Science projects will include snake visioning, fish feeding and behavior, effect of hurricanes on local nature reserves, modeling gamma ray
emission from starburst galaxies, galactic formation and evolution, physics behind tsunami waves, extrasolar planet detection methods, and instrumentation
and identification and analysis of magnetic substorms.

Florida Tech engineering students conceive, design and build their projects gaining hands-on experience. Science students conceive and execute research in
their fields. The student project simulates a real-world work environment challenge in a variety of engineering and science areas. This develops practical
skills, such as teamwork, professionalism and leadership.
