Build up experience by learning from others as well as yourself

When I was 19, a dear friend told me that I needed to learn from others and not rely solely on my own experiences if I wanted to grow and blossom as an individual. So I try to take what I have learned over the years — in combination with lessons imparted to me by friends, colleagues and family — to be the best person I can be, on both a personal and professional level.

“Active culture” is a process in which we reinforce or challenge beliefs, are exposed to new insights, engage in new experiences, and select those who shape who we are and what we believe today. Our active culture is a part of us, so we take it with us to school, to work, and bring it home. It is dynamic.

By acknowledging cultural differences and assimilating each individual’s unique qualities into the organization, you can produce quality outcomes that meet specific business objectives, increasing productivity and morale in the workplace.

I encourage each business owner, executive and manager to explore the active cultures of your workplace. Then, the power lies in what we do with that information. Consider incorporating the suggestions, observations and past experiences of all the active cultures around you when making important business decisions.
